PASP is a member of FIFPRO, the World Players’ Union, which represents more than 70,000 male and female footballers, including names such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. FIFPRO’s membership includes national players’ unions from 72 countries, along with 4 candidate members and several observer members.
History
Although national players’ associations had existed earlier, FIFPRO was the first to unite several national unions under one umbrella in December 1965. The World Players’ Union was founded in Paris by representatives of domestic associations from the Netherlands, England, Scotland, France, and Italy. FIFPRO expanded and developed over the following decades to become what it is today: an organization representing 66,000 professional male and female footballers worldwide.
FIFPRO - Mission and Objectives
FIFPRO supports and protects the labor rights and interests of professional male and female footballers worldwide. It works to address issues such as player workload, mental health, and fair working conditions within professional football. FIFPRO is dedicated to supporting players throughout their careers, promoting their education, and advocating for their well-being and rights in negotiations with organizations such as FIFA and UEFA.
FIFPRO Europe Vice Presidency
On June 11, 2025, during the FIFPRO Europe Congress held in Stockholm, the Executive President of the Pancyprian Footballers’ Association was re-elected for a third term to the FIFPRO Europe Board of Directors, securing 57.8% of the vote—the highest percentage among all candidates. This achievement highlights the consistent and significant contribution of PASP’s Executive President to European football union affairs.
Immediately following the vote, the new Board of Directors convened, with Spyros Neofytides once again assuming the role of FIFPRO Europe Vice President and David Terrier remaining as President.
