Following PASP’s discussions with the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection, and the recent meeting between the Deputy Minister and the sports federations, clubs have been granted additional time until 31 December 2026 to resolve pending residence and employment permit applications for professional footballers and athletes from non-EU countries.
This positive development was officially confirmed by the Deputy Ministry and communicated to clubs through the Cyprus Football Association (CFA).
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Clubs must immediately submit all necessary documents to the Migration Department.
- Employment contracts must comply with Cyprus labour legislation, including the national minimum wage of *€1,088 gross per month after six months of continuous employment with the same employer* (€979 gross during the first six months).
- The deadline does not automatically extend existing residence permits or authorise employment without the required permits.
- All affected players are strongly encouraged to contact their clubs and ensure that the necessary procedures are completed without delay.
PASP warmly welcomes this positive development and sincerely thanks the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Dr Nicholas A. Ioannides, for his cooperation and constructive approach.
We remain committed to protecting the employment rights, legal status and welfare of all professional footballers in Cyprus.
